Yesterday morning we went straight to what turned out to be the best meal of its type that i’ve had in months. It was a small plates places, which I suppose I must forgive (I dislike them as I find it impossible not cater to my companions’ preferences instead of my own), and everything was prepared with incredible finesse and depth of flavour. We had, among other things, some cauliflower on toast, and an endive salad with rosewater, charred shallots and sumac. Both were superb. The third, a gravlax, was also very good. The quality of the food cheered me up after the stress I always feel when ordering shared dishes.
It was colder yesterday, with an icy wind, and it made me miss Puerto Viejo.
Today I had a haircut, finally, much desired and long awaited. It is nice to be back in a place where short hair is commonly to be found, and I feel human, or at least youngish, again.
