We are now frequenting our neighbourhood forn every day for a lovely little breakfast. This is bookended by the sunset strolls in the afternoons. A very civilised lifestyle. The woman at the forn seems very taken with me, which is unusual as it’s usually the Gentleman Friend who is beloved by all. It’s rather nice but also disconcerting. Yesterday she gave me a big kiss and a kaak and said I have a Lebanese face. We don’t really share a language, but I am trying to exercise my pitiful French a little, and also pick up what Arabic words I can. It’s a lovely little place, the woman really feels like she is the centre of a community, as there are perpetually people walking by to say hello, or she is dashing out to give a child a kaak.
I’ll miss our daily rituals when we leave, though I am excited about Nepal.
Work has now picked up and is off and running. It’ll be vey busy for at least the next month, then I’ll take off some days for hiking in Nepal, and then hopefully will return to work as it is the end-of-year reporting season, a particular speciality of mine.
