Uphill

It was a quiet Sunday: we walked down to Taksim Square (stopping for a kibbeh for me along the way), and then onward to take the cable car to Nisantasi. This turned out to be unexpectedly enjoyable, as the cable car was just two capsules each way, and went over the park, over ruined walls covered in vines, and was both picturesque and great fun. Not perhaps a match for the cable cars of Medellin, but an excellent form of public transport. We had lunch and got annoyed by the people sitting next to us (a pair of repellent journalists), and bought supplies and then returned, promptly to fall asleep – most unusual for either of us to sleep in the daytime, but perhaps age is catching up. Certainly, work might be as it’s been a busy time, with non-work time dominated by talking and thinking about buying a flat.

I made a rather exciting dinner, I must say. Exciting to me, at least – some freekeh, very smoky and meaty (despite not having anything other than onions and parsley), with some courgettes with capers, and a topping of thick yoghurt with mint and sumac. I was very pleased with it.
