Two lost phones

Last week I left my phone on a restaurant table. They phoned the GF who had made the booking but of course couldn’t reach him because he, like me, usually has his phone on silent. Meanwhile we went around the somewhat uninteresting museum and then had to dash back to the restaurant to collect the phone.

Today we went to the Thean Hou temple to see the Mid-Autumn Festival lanterns (there were none – perhaps we were misinformed?) and after about 20 minutes realised that the GF had dropped his phone in the Uber car. Since he had booked the Uber we didn’t have his number on my phone, but luckily it was possible to log into his account from my phone and call the driver. Not directly but through the app and eventually got through and the driver agreed to bring the phone to us. It took well over an hour and we progressively got hungrier and more irritable and there was no way to communicate except through the app. Anyhow, we got the phone, then went for dim sum, and here we are, back at the flat.

I found it rather pleasant to not have my phone for a couple of hours, but I am sure it would become difficult eventually. When I first arrived in KL my bag was snatched (leaving me with a split head) and phone lost. I used an ordinary mobile phone for several months and life was definitely easier once I got a smartphone with internet and a map and translation app and all the rest (especially after I also left my ipod in a car and never got it back).
