We’re in Phnom Penh. I of course have been working frantically, with no end in sight. I was working and in meetings till past midnight last night, then woke at 5.30 as usual, had a shower and started working, worked in the car except when I felt car sick (exacerbated by the driver’s repellently fruity smelling beverage and hideous sniffles), and then got to the hotel where at once I started working and have since only stopped for dinner (having skipped lunch).
The Cambodian countryside in the dry season looks much like one of the greener bits of Pakistan. Maybe it’s the mix of orange soil, dry vegetation and yellow light that does it. I wonder if it looks very different in the rainy season.
The GF and I had meetings at the same time and I had the indignity of having to take one in the bathroom as we were both talking and the balcony was noisy with traffic. I’m afraid the echo made it clear to the others where I was, but there was nothing to be done about it.
Another minor indignity: I dropped my toothbrush down the drain in Kep. I could see it staring up at me, wedged too deep to be pulled out and quietly disposed of. I had to admit it to the caretaker who was, luckily, understanding and said he would fish it out after we left.
