Ticket to Scotland

I went online to buy tickets to an Odissi dance performance at KLPac and saw that Nicola Sturgeon has announced a new Scottish referendum. My first thought was: not another referendum. My second: I wonder, if we must move back to the UK, could it be to Scotland? Trump’s election is an outrage and I still can’t really believe it happened, but the Brexit vote, and the locomotive it has unleashed, leaves one feeling angry and powerless.

No election result in Pakistan gets me this worked up, but there the choices are of a different level.

I was pleased to see that the much delayed census in Pakistan will have three categories for gender.

And, after a long time, I am listening to the Velvet Underground and Nico, one of the few and first albums I listened to from beginning to end. That was many years ago, but the movement from track to track is as familiar as the shapes of my fingers.

Latest in my food tales: I have been buying a daily kuih to accompany Better Call Saul, and today’s random selection turned out to be not sweet but flavoured with dried shrimp. On googling I see it was a or kuih or yam cake. Luckily I had, out of greed, also bought a second kuih which was sweet, though the taste of the first lingered so that I couldn’t say what the flavouring was.
