After the night’s unrest a quieter day passed though I still worried all day, since the Gentleman Friend’s way of expressing illness is different enough from my own that it is difficult for me to assess how ill he is, and whether something needs to be done. I made daal and rice for dinner – the daal was either as old as that in London, or a different variety than those I’m used to, as though it was masoor daal, it didn’t disintegrate as it cooked. Well, slightly less old than the London one, which just tasted old to me. I miss having good daal, and will have to wait till Nepal for it.
I was asleep by around 9 and woke up at 7, so have thoroughly made up for lost sleep.
Imran Khan spoke as the PM yesterday. It was encouraging that he spoke so strongly about matters that most politicians have long considered below them – education, the appalling nutrition crisis, developing tourism, etc. But I’m still really uneasy about the influences and powers around his government, and I generally don’t trust these politicians, like Imran or Shahbaz Sharif, who think of themselves as deciders, rather than relying on experts and committees etc.
