The day before the election, telling that this is one of the featured stories on the Dawn website:
This morning I spoke to someone in Pakistan who was in a chatty mood, clearly a little excited by the election. He asked me whom I would vote for, I told the truth that in Pakistani elections I have always spoiled my ballot. His face fell and he said that he’d been asking educated people whom he should vote for and so far they were split equally between PTI voters, PML voters and those saying a plague on all houses. I said to him, God gave you a brain like everyone else, what do you think? And he replied, somewhat bashfully, PTI – even though the cost of living had gone up under Imran Khan, but he was treated unfairly.
I wonder to what extent the election, at least in Punjab, will be on this basis – fairness vs cost of living.
As to the extent to which this will decide the election, it’s not in the hands of anyone I am personally acquainted with, thank heavens.
What an election year this is.
