In lalaland

Lady Lala’s mother is in town, so I met her and Lady Lala’s KL friend for lunch at Kenny Hill. We had the duck rice again, and I enjoyed it rather less than before, it was fine I guess. The last time I had it was before the GF went to Dhaka, which feels like […]

Back to work day

It’s back to work day and very little work has been done. It’s due tomorrow, just before I meet a friend’s mother for lunch, so I had best get on with it. I arranged the delivery of packing boxes for tomorrow. Tomorrow I’ll also tell the cleaner that we are leaving. Then, I think, the […]

Wallpaper art

Today’s great achievement, on our return to KL, was to carefully fill in the scrapes in the wallpaper dating from the time the GF decided to practice handstands against that wall. I did a very good job, I must say. It is virtually indistinguishable from the rest of the wallpaper.

Virtuous edutainment

Our flight wasn’t till the late afternoon so in the morning we went for what was reputed to be amongst the best nasi kerabu places. It was packed, despite being a Friday (weekend in Terengganu) and the day of Shab-e-Meraj, commemorating the Prophet’s ascension to heaven. Nasi kerabu is rice dyed blue with pea flower, […]

Bumblefish

The boatride back was completely different. The sea was very calm, barely a wave. We hoped to see dolphins but instead saw some rather lovely flying fish, dark and round, that flew for metres and looked like earwigs. I call them bumblefish. Then a bus ride back to Kuala Terengganu, and to our hotel. A […]

Sand fly

We woke, both of us but especially the GF, covered in large solid looking bites. We worried that they were from some infestation in the bedding (it being that sort of place) but the staff assured us that they were sandfly bites. Hopefully these are less lethal and long lasting than the ones in Sumba, […]

Sand wasp

The day was as quiet as planned. After breakfast we tried snorkelling off the beach which turned out to be very good compared to the other end of the bay, though still nowhere near the top ranks we’ve been fortunate enough to see. There was plenty of living coral here, and pipefish, and schools and […]

Very heavy seas

We arrived at the A’king pier on time, and about ten minutes later a boat arrived and a series of people staggered off, vomiting. We waited for a while, and then one of the staff came over and asked us if we were sure we wanted to go to the island. The GF, who had […]

Heavy seas

The sea is extremely rough today. I spent the morning on the beach, reading under a straw umbrella, with massive waves crashing just a few metres away. The resort has a long bay of its own, with a rocky bit at its furthers extreme, and nearly in the centre of this bay the waves were […]

In Terengganu

Arrived after a slightly troublesome journey, with delayed flights, no food, a difficult email for the GF and my realising that I’d forgotten my contacts, without which I can’t snorkel or dive – my eyes are at -8 and I might as well be blind wearing goggles. Most of this was eventually resolved – no […]
