Strange times

As I started writing this, I looked up at the tall building, about 30 stories, under construction across from me, and watched a large plank of wood fall off the side. It took very long to fall.

I opened reddit as usual for my quick browse of various country pages. On Nepal, a genuine question from someone asking what one can eat besides daal bhaat. A world of delicious food, bro. The only way to go is up.

In the Guardian, two feature articles that seem to be taking the piss. One literally: can we get over the ‘yuck’ factor of using a piece of cloth instead of toilet paper after urination? The West really needs to be introduced to the lota. Secondly, an excitable article about fabrics that store carbon and are clearly the solution to climate change. Except:

The care instructions were rather different to normal clothes, she said. Wearing algae was not without its perils. “You can’t put it into your dark wardrobe. It needs light and carbon dioxide, so you have to put it in a well-ventilated area, like the back of your chair.” … “But it might change colour if it’s really upset, if it didn’t like the light or temperature,” Lin said. “Most of the organisms are in the green shade. In the healthy state they are dark brownish green, orangeish green. When it’s unhappy it might turn yellow, orange, brown, purple or white or transparent.”
