We continued our exploration of nice Istanbul neighbourhoods, this time taking the ferry over to Kadikoy (and establishing along the way that the smaller pier has the better and more direct ferries) and walking through to Yeldeğirmeni, which I had just skirted a few weeks ago when I went to get my computer fixed and which seemed promising. It turned out to be extremely nice, like a mashing together of hip but unpretentious parts of East London with Primrose Hill. We had a very nice non-Turkish brunch – the best in Istanbul to date – followed by coffee, and strolled around looking at small independent shops and galleries and admiring the streets. The neighbourhood is on a hill and on one side all the streets went down to meet the Marmara Sea, and on another side they went down and climbed precipitously up a tree covered hill, so it felt like being on an island. We also came across a little nursery specialising in house plants and came away with a couple, which we then took on their intercontinental journey by ferry and they have joined the cluster in the living room
