It was a funny sort of weekend, with both of us feeling anxious and tense about the flat and its progress, as well as various work related matters. For me, there was the annoyance of one of my longstanding clients revealing that as of two years ago invoices have to be submitted using a special submission system. They processed my invoices until a few months ago when they suddenly stopped and now I have to resubmit all of them.
Then, someone emailed me looking for an editor saying they’d received ‘extortionate’ quotes from other editors and could I proofread his text for a ‘fair price’? This irritated me greatly, so much so that I have only just realised that in my measured response I addressed them by the wrong name – think ‘Jocelyn’ rather than ‘Jemima’. So to top it off, I had to write an apologetic email.
In the afternoon, though, things looked up a bit as we went down to Karakoy’s building supplies market where we found a paint shop and got them to mix a few samples for us. These we took to the flat to find the contractor’s son here. He applied the samples. None of them were an instant yes, and in fact we managed to not get a single sample in the sort of natural plaster look I really like though there was one cool white which I quite liked. But in any case, it was all very straightforward and the paint machines were impressive. I daresay others are very familiar with their wonders, but I thought they were amazing things.
There is a rather splendid moon this evening.
