We’re off to Thailand this evening where (all going well) we’ll meet the GF’s adopted uncle, a Kiwi gentleman. We’re supposed to go to a fairly bland hotel for an overnight stop, about half an hour from Phuket airport (a true shithole), and then drive a couple of hours north, followed by a longtail boat to the place we’re staying for a few days.
Possible points of weakness in this plan:
- Getting to the first hotel. Will the uncle arrive and be allowed to check in? Will we?
- Getting to the second hotel. Will they remember to send our long-booked car, and will they send it to the right place?
- Arrival by boat. Will the uncle, who is in his seventies and has a wobbly back, be able to get out of the boat should the tides dictate an arrival by water?
- Work. Will I suddenly be engulfed with work on a trip which is supposed to be dedicated to snorkelling, kayaking and eating nice food?
Such are the worries that consume me.
