Jungle fowl

I had my chai this morning and then took the free bus from the Weld to Petaling street for breakfast at Hon Kee Porridge. It was later than ideal, around 10 in the morning, but it was very pleasant nonetheless, to sit at a quiet table with my congee accompanied by a plate of raw fish and you tiao, and a glass of chilled herbal tea as around the shops and stalls did their changeover from the morning custom to the day’s custom. I shared a table with an older Chinese woman and younger (Singaporean?) Chinese man. We’d all ordered the same thing – this is what Hon Kee is known for – and there was a meditative delight in being able to be alone, lost in thought, amongst others.

I then bought a pair of kopitiam style noodle bowls emblazoned with jungle fowl, and returned as it’s a working weekend.
