The GF and I decided to join the 21st century today by opening an MPesa account. We also got our mobile phone SIMs, of course. But the MPesa is what is exciting.
We went to a mobile phone shop where I remarked to the GF what a pleasure it is sometimes to see a really adept mobile phone salesman flickering his fingers around to set the settings. So many small skills like this. I rmeember admiring the music shop guy’s adept use of a pencil to wind an audio cassette to where he wanted it, or the way he applied a tiny bit of stuffing and tape so record a new mixtape.
Aside from that it was a working day. I had to catch up on a fair bit as there had been a delay with my contract: HR found time to send around a self-aggrandising email from its director saying farewell, and a message from the organisation’s leadership congratulating staff on being given ‘early release’ on New Year’s Eve, but didn’t actually get around to working on contracts that were supposed to start this month. Anyway.
In the evening I made dinner, with some difficulty as the studio kitchen is tiny and I really didn’t want to have smells in our sleeping area. I think I succeeded.
