Home style dining

A remarkable success this morning. It was a working day for both of us but first we went to a restaurant we had heard of – not a restaurant but someone’s house where they cook and serve in their living room. We arrived and no one spoke English and the cook came out of the kitchen and shouted at us – I thought perhaps because we hadn’t made a reservation, but I think it was because there was no one there who spoke English. Eventually she rang her sister who interpreted, and we took our seats at one of the three tables. A little boy, the cook’s son, came by and stared unblinkingly at each of us in turn and then, not satisfied went nose to nose with the GF and stared at him properly. Very sweet.

The food was spectacular, one of the best meals I’ve had in this country. A superb mutton dish, very hot and with nuggets of fat, absolutely delicious. I finished it myself as the GF of course doesn’t eat meat any more. There was also a perfectly fried whole fish, some fantastic vegetables. Outstanding stuff.

Then to a nearby cafe to work for a few hours.
