My birthday present to the GF this year is (or will be next month) a pair of tickets to Hamilton as he is a great fan and has virtually memorised the entire show. I was fortunate to find two quite good seats on Ticketmaster and was full of praise for their anti-scalping measure, ie making it extremely easy and inexpensive to return tickets so there is always a steady stream of returns one can avail. Unfortunately, another part of their anti-scalping measure is that they save your credit card details to identify you when you collect your tickets on the day of the performance and some days ago there was a massive data leak in which my card, amongst many thousands of others, was stolen. I checked my bank statement almost incidentally and was horrified to find a three-figure transaction I hadn’t done. I called the credit card company at once, and it took over an hour before I managed to speak to someone who could do something about it. In any case, they promised a refund and I have sworn never to use Ticketmaster again. It’s particularly infuriating as I am always careful to never save my credit card details online. Well, hopefully it’s sorted and I will keep an eye out for any compensation schemes they announce because it was not at all a pleasant way to spend 10-11pm on a Wednesday.
