Football

I watched (part of) my first World Cup match today. The Gentleman Friend is very keen on the sport, though in recent years has been thwarted by important matches playing only on paid sport channels, and a dislike for pubs and bars. But the World Cup is playing everywhere and tonight was the first England game. I have promised to support England for football (though it’s a struggle) if he supports Pakistan for cricket, which seems a fair deal, though I admit I have a hard time overcoming my natural instinct to support almost any Third World team against any First World one. Anyhow, it was a frustrating match, a slow, grinding sort of thing, with little flair except in the Tunisians’ dramatic dives (which even I genuinely deprecated) but eventually England won. I should instead have watched Spain vs Portugal a few days ago, but there it is.

I registered for a GP this morning. It was a far more complicated process than I recall. Last time all I had to do was show a little purple slip with my NHS number, a photo ID and a proof of address. This time none of these were required, and instead I filled out two very long and complicated forms, measured my blood pressure and weight (I should lose a few pounds), and even gave a urine sample, which seemed rather much. Anyhow, it’s done, kind of – in the evening I received an automated email with my registration details for online management, but the details are, so far as I can tell, incorrect. Since there are three different prescription management services, the NHS in between and then the GP surgery itself, I don’t have high hopes of getting it resolved. Oh well.
