A bit of Brexit fallout already as I hear that a relative by marriage, a French national, has had her application for indefinite leave to remain in the UK (with a British spouse and two British children) declined because she didn’t have proof she was in the country during the period of her maternity leave for one child. Complete nonsense. What’s the point of a surveillance state then?
I am also unconvinced by remainers cheering themselves up by arguing that after Brexit British politicians will have nowhere to hide and will be unable to put the blame for their failures on a distant European Union. A glance at the less seemly papers today had headlines as “Johnson fury as EU reneges on deal” which suggeests to me that the EU will remain the scapegoat.
