Done

Did what I had come to Lahore to do, some dealings with banks and lawyers. It took about 50 signatures and thumb prints, both rather tedious. My signature is variable at the best of times. The ink stain on my thumb, on the other hand, is the opposite of variable.as it has not shifted despite quite a bit of scrubbing.

With the sisters went on a brief tour of readymade clothing shops – Generation, Daman and Sapphire. Generation is the grandparent of all readymade apparel in Pakistan; my mother supplied to them in 1980s. In recent years there has been a boom in the sector as people move away from tailors and made to measure clothing. Sapphire is the H&M equivalent in Pakistan. One of the things about ready made clothes here is that shops have to have a huge number of styles and designs, since wearing something identical to someone else is far worse than in Western countries where there is a far greater range of styling possible for any one item. So there is a really incredible range of clothing available and it seems to change almost weekly.

This, of course, is separate from the lawn craze, though there is some overlap in that lawn prints help vary the styles.

Anyhow, I bought a top. Sleeveless white cotton, to wear with trousers not a shalwar or pajama, and cut like an angarkha.
