Divine eggstacy

After the GF and his mother arose we booked ourselves a car to take us to the Gereja Ayam, a place I have wanted to visit ever since I first heard about it. Many years ago, a man had a vision, telling him to build a church for the lord. The church would be in the hills of Java and it would be in the shape of the divine dove, symbol of the Holy Spirit. So he found a hill in Java, amidst the jungle and overlooking Borobudur. Unfortunately the workmen weren’t sure what a dove was but they knew what a chicken was, so they built it in the form of a chicken instead.

We also visited two smaller temples affiliated with Borobudur but they paled compared to the magnificence of Borobudur and the chicken church. Lunch was at a very fine goat satay place – the first time I’ve genuinely enjoyed satay.

We made another attempt to visit Borobudur and got thoroughly soaked. The rain in Java is remarkable. As are the school groups – it was also bucketing children.
