Delightful extravagance

This morning I looked out of the window and everything was snow covered. There was a strong flurry yesterday, which had been quite a shock – very large flakes and swirling like a snow globe – but nothing stuck. Clearly overnight it was cold enough that it did stick, at least for a few hours. The GF is firm that this was winter’s last stand, but I do think in March, in Istanbul, it should not be snowing. I certainly walked through mounds of snow in Boston at this time of year, but that was Boston, a notoriously frigid place.

Today I sealed the deal on a projector and a projector screen for our new flat, assuming it doesn’t fall to the ground in an earthquake, or even if it does. It is actually the GF’s projector and screen of course, so I just placed the order and then corresponded with the seller to arrange payment etc. This necessitated going off to the bank, as it turns out I never activated my internet banking. Very annoying, but it was good to get out, and though cold it was quite sunny and fresh. On the way back I stopped at a sweetmaker’s and came back with far more helva, marzipan and lokum than strictly necessary.

The turkish delight was really lovely. I had thought it might be an error to get the walnut, but it was delicious, and came after one of the best pastas we’ve had in a while, courtesy of the GF’s experimentations with the oven. We’ve never used ovens much, even in London, but they are clearly handy things to have around.

Soon after I got an email from a person whose work I was supposed to edit this weekend. They wanted to set up a call, so we did. It was really just to ask if I could move the editing to later, but they are clearly having a very bad time with this document, to the extent that they cried a little. How miserable.
