Crick in the neck

Something of a rite of passage today as I injured myself whilst doing crunches on the heath. Nothing particularly terrible, just a pulled muscle in the back of my neck/shoulder, but an affront nonetheless. I do feel since I’ve started this whole regular workout business I feel every ache and pain more than I ever did and don’t feel especially stronger, fitter, bendier, with more stamina, less wobbly or anything at all. Well, that’s not true – crunches, planks etc are easier than when I began, but I would also like to feel or see some difference outside those three hours a week.

So a quick inventory: muscle pulled behind my neck and through my right shoulder, a twinge in the lower back on the left side, a right knee that can ache going up and down stairs and actually makes me wonder if it’s slightly arthritic, and a left ankle that has always had the propensity to fold over.

I thought after about 10 weeks of this I’d be feeling physically better.
