Change of weather

A cyclone grazed the country and cold southerlies began to blow. The temperature dropped 10 degrees or more, the skies turned steel grey and it poured with rain all day long. We went out with the Doyenne to get some groceries from a magnificient city centre warehousey sort of place and then drove a bit around the city, admiring the steep slopes like gashes left by falling axes and filled with greenery and occasionally precarious houses. On returning we decided not to go to watch a haka competition as it was still cold and wet and the Gentleman Friend could feel the start of a cold. In the late afternoon we went for a walk through the Botanical Garden where we somehow managed to take a different route but end up in the same place multiple times, probably the greatest amount of walking to cover the least amount of ground I’ve ever managed. We did manage to see a couple of new spots, the top of a hill with a brown grass ridge running along it to a stone pyramid, and a small flat field. But most of it was in the bush, with the browns and greens almost glowing against the grey skies.

Killing Eve suffered a dip in episodes 3 and 4 after an extremely promising start. It turns out they were written by someone other than the main writer, perhaps that explains it? Episode 5 was not quite a return to form, but quite good, and that was by the main writer. However, I think it’s also that I had thought from the first couple of episodes that I was watching, basically, a lighthearted version of The Killing whereas actually it was an updated Prison Break. Once I accepted this I started enjoying it more.

This morning was a little warmer though the wind was still from the south (there’s nothing between us and Antarctica, we’ve been told repeatedly by many different people, with a sense of being marooned and of being far from the motherland). The sun has been out, though there was one determined albeit shortlived shower of rain in the morning.
