Change of plan

Yesterday was sunny, today it rained and rained. We had planned to go to Manzanillo but given the conditions (we were soaked through almost instantly), decided to go for coffee instead and had an excellent pancake with it. Just at the edge of town is a swimming beach so off we went. The Gentleman Friend dived in but I stayed on shore, admiring the scene: the wide open sea, with a boatwreck in the centre, and little skittering waves where the reef was close to the surface. In the distance, clouds curled over the hilly jungle, the sky and sea were the same with barely a dividing line.

It cleared a bit as we walked back, but it was too late to try to go to Manzanillo. The fine black sand of Playa Negra glittered again and the GF jumped in a few more times to practice catching waves. It is very pleasant to walk along a warm sea on a cool, wet, windy day. A few jungle streams come down to the sea as one walks along Playa Negra, and their cool water swirls around one’s ankles, mixed with warm seawater, at the little estuaries. Quite delightful.

A dragonfly seems to think our porch is a pond. It keep coming to where I sit and type, hovers confusedly, and leaves.
