Heartbreaking

A heartbreaking article, and full of controlled fury, in the New York Times. It is about the 2019 outbreak of HIV in a rural part of Sindh, where hundreds of children were (and continue to be) diagnosed. One of the better piece I’ve read in a while of this sort, as it links together societal […]

Close to home

The coronavirus is running rampant in Pakistan, thank heavens my father and grandmother should have their second vaccinations next week, assuming they don’t run out of doses. A pair of relatives by marriage are quite unwell and have only just been diagnosed, so it is many days before they will be safely on the road […]

Long day’s work

I was up till one working last night, and then there was a power cut so I went to bed. And again back on the job this morning. This has really been a sustained period of working and I am starting to feel a dash of burnout. No end in sight, though I might be […]

Never again will I do something this foolish – I refer to the work I wrote about yesterday. I was up late, and then started work before breakfast – not as early as I planned, but still before breakfast. Thank heavens for the time difference. I sent off what I had and was very plain […]

Desperate working

I took on something I really shouldn’t have. When I am already overloaded with work I agreed to edit a research report on a topic with which I am completely unfamiliar, written by 6 different people none of whom have English as a native language (and none of whom share a language with each other), […]
