Boober

I met a colleague of the Gentleman Friend for coffee yesterday, and to talk about some of my work, including the measurement of the benefits of research. There wasn’t a lot to say, unfortunately, as my approach is not terribly data driven, based on case studies rather than measurable indicators. She was a former chemist who had then been a teacher and was now casting about for next steps.
I also took the opportunity to switch from Uber to Grab, the former having been consistently annoying in recent weeks. The most irritating thing has certainly been how it no longer tells you how much greater surge fares are, and that it gives an estimated time of arrival for cars which bears no relation to actual arrival times once a driver has been identified. Yesterday it took several minutes to find a car, stating that one was 4 minutes away, then a driver 20 minutes away accepted it. Ten minutes later he cancelled, and it had been searching for alternatives for several minutes when I cancelled and moved on to Grab instead. Which found a driver immediately, and I was on my way.
Hmph, I say.
Going to Singapore for a couple of days next week. I just booked a seat.
