Into the city
We went into Soho for a lunch to celebrate a birthday, at Xu, a Taiwanese restaurant. Quite nice, not great, though hobbled by one of our party being vegetarian on one hand, and the current London focus on meaty specialities on the other. The Gentleman Friend’s gammy knee gammed up rather badly (after nearly three […]
Home
We watched the football yesterday, and English went through to the semi-finals. I was not particularly interested in Sweden winning so it was easier to support England than usual, however I become increasingly discomforted by all the talk of football coming home, and the fact that all the teams remaining are European. France, Belgium and […]
Glum meal
We strolled once more through Cricklewood on our way westwards towards Willesden, there to have dinner with a couple of our acquaintance and their children. It was not the most enlivening meal, as one of the children was recently diagnosed with a congenital condition that will require major surgery, as well as a less major […]
Cricklewood
I went to Cricklewood yesterday, to collect some parcels. I had never been there before (though the Gentleman Friend avers that I have), though it it only a 20 minute walk from where we are in Hampstead. Party flags VII
And, not a minute too soon, the final set of Malaysian party flags. There is nothing much to say.
Cannoli by the canal
Another pleasant weekend day as the Gentleman Friend and I took a bus down to St John’s Wood (a cut-rate Westbourne Grove) and then got onto the canal, walking eastwards through Regent’s Park (warthogs), Camden (tourists and dope smokers) and finally King’s Cross. The development here was looking fabulous. The first time I was in […]
Party flags VI
Now we’re at the tail end. A hornbill that, unfortunately, looks like roadkill, competes with a bull.
Hot day in town
Yesterday was Saturday and I began the morning with a trip to the West Hampstead farmer’s market, there to get bread, ravioli and whatever else looked good. I forgot both bread and ravioli and instead returned with a broad selection of berries, vegetables and yoghurts. One punnet of raspberries in a virtuously recyclable cardboard container […]
Party flags V
Now we get to the religious parties, and what I think is the best flag qua flag, that of PAS, the religious party. It was all over Terengganu a couple of months ago, and looked quite impressive. Also impressive, in a different way, is the flag with a brain on it.
