Bad blogging

I made a failed attempt to change the theme of this blog yesterday. I use Suffusion at the moment, which is excellent and super customisable without needing too much faffing around with CSS etc. Unfortunately it’s no longer supported or updated and has been getting slower and slower load times. Looking for an equally simple layout I tried some of the native WordPress themes and was horrified at how simplistic and free of customisation they are unless I dive into the CSS. Sad!

Work has kicked up a bit today after some idle and nervous days. Such is the life of a consultant, but of course now I feel trapped and unhappy. Such, indeed, is the life of a consultant.

The Labour party split that happened last night is very interesting indeed. I was particularly stirred by Luciana Berger, as well as some of the other Jewish MPs (mostly women, unsurprisingly) who’ve had to deal with such appalling anti-Semitism. Really can’t blame them for leaving or wanting to leave, and their frustration was palpable. I was less impressed by Chuka Umunna and co, they certainly weren’t the inspiring standard bearers for Brexit I’d hoped for. Instead they were basically seeming to want to turn the clock back to Blair’s era – which is reasonable in one sense as I think the current left wing hatred of Blair is ridiculous: though I am by no means sympathetic to New Labour and marched against the Iraq invasion as a student, I think his achievements in power and as a political mind are also undeniable. But there is no going back, that is not where the world is and I would have had more respect for a clearer leftwing, or at least non-Blairite, vision. That said, (a) all the MPs seemed really sad and broken, even Umunna, and (b) at least someone did something.
