I rang in the decade lying in bed, working — not even on my own work but something very similar for someone else. I tried desperately to finish up before midnight so I could maintain my tradition of being fast asleep for the new year, but didn’t succeed, and it wasn’t till about 20 minutes later that I was finally able to sleep. Hopefully not a sign of the decade to come.
Yesterday was a very busy day. In the morning I had a long, long meeting with some colleagues who were struggling with their work. I went in as the good cop with another as the bad cop, so that we could make them do what it was they were supposed to. The bad cop gave them a shock and then left, and then I pushed the work forward as much as I could.
