Yesterday I followed the dog that lives on this property as it clearly wanted to show me something. Today it was back at the same time, so we seem to have a regular afternoon exploration. Today we went down to the swampy bit by the lake. The nesting birds which usually divebomb to drive away intruders weren’t there, nor were the hippos, though I did spot what looked like hippo footprints. The dog, repellently, found some zebra droppings and ate them. This is why I don’t keep a dog. Then we walked up the hill, away from the lake, to some scattered bushes where the zebras didn’t mind us, though the water buck made a swift retreat. More because of me than the dog, I fear. And another pair of nesting birds, this time nesting in a tree instead of the ground, set up a great racket.
