Today was the last sunny day in what has been a very warm winter thus far. From tomorrow onwards the clouds will come, and then next week the temperatures are due to drop to zero.
I spent the day working, finishing up the final edit of a very interesting monograph, quite gripping as these things go, and with lovely photos. The morning was a little fraught as I had my personal trainer (which I have been very diligent about since the summer) but was feeling quite feeble so only did 3 rounds instead of 4 and my arms definitely feel like they will ache tomorrow as I think there was a little too much upper arm work.
Last night the GF and I watched the first episode of The Last of Us, based on a very good computer game, or at least the GF and most people really like it, while I enjoyed watching the GF play it occasionally. The episode was about 90 minutes long, so as long as a film really sound be, such is the way of this streaming universe where we are no longer tethered to viewing slots or ad breaks.
We’ve watched a few TV series in the past few months and while I don’t remember if I commented on any of them here before, I shall do so now.
- Succession Started a while back. Total nonsense with dislikable people and no taste to be seen anywhere. I am really amazed people thought it was any good. There were a couple of good episodes, but overall it was nonsense. Bah.
- Chernobyl OK, but whatever. Some striking bits, especially in the beginning when the meltdown occurs, but had a little too much of personal stories including some stupid ones, and generally a bit manipulative and American.
- Andor This was really surprisingly good. I remain astonished that a Star Wars spinoff could be so subtly handled, the story was good, the characters were good, the settings were good. Also, it was rousing in a way that I really enjoy, but almost always mistrust. My favourite TV all year, probably in longer.
- White Lotus I only watched the first 2-3 episodes of the first season and I daresay I might watch it some more, but it was facile, predictable nonsense that I have largely forgotten already.
