No cream tea

Today was a no cream tea day, the opportunity did not arise. I have something due on Monday and I want to go for a long walk tomorrow so spent most of the day working, with an outing in the afternoon to walk up to the castle. The castle is actually a mediaeval hunting lodge and is thoroughly ruined, though quite impressive still as it is built on a motte and one skeletal half-tower rises high. I first encountered some very friendly dogs, and then the friendliest toddler I’ve ever seen, as he grabbed my finger and took me on a tour of the castle, to the confusion of his parents. It was very sweet.

I walked around the woods surrounding the castle which were very pleasant, except that you could hear the big road that passes near Okehampton – a problem with the early part of yesterday’s walk too. So I started listening to a highly recommended podcast, The History of Rock Music in 500 Songs. It starts with Jazz Age stuff so I’m not finding it very interesting, and wish the musical clips were a little longer. I’ll persevere though, as I’ve heard it is one of the best podcasts going, and early episodes are usually inferior.

The way back to town was through another park and this time I saw a live hare. Another beautiful park, but again the roar of traffic in the distance. Such a shame.
