Night work

Last night I was supposed to go out for dinner with friends, which I scheduled a little late so I could get as close to the end of my working hours as possible. But, half an hour before the designated time, I got a message saying that they wanted to publish a particular document that evening instead of the next day. So I asked my friends to come over to the house instead, and we all sat in the lounge, and they talked while I worked and chatted intermittently. It was a little stressful and I don’t think I was very good company, but on the other hand the conversation wasn’t exactly scintillating. I ordered in tikkas for everyone – luckily there is a very good place in Main Market, quite close by, so it all went well. I managed to send off the document at 11 at night and it was published within the next 20 minutes. Meanwhile I received a long-awaited message from someone in South America with whom I had to discuss work. So after seeing off my guests I went back to quickly get ready for bed and then wait for the call, which finally happened at 1 in the morning. It’s a new project which seems very interesting, and hopefully will go well, and open up new opportunities. But it was still very late, and I fear that I was very obviously wearing a dressing gown.
