Honour guard into hell

Rumsfeld surely has one of the more substantial honour guards into the afterlife with tens of thousands of Iraqis, Afghans and Pakistanis killed because of him. As Afghanistan teeters on the brink of America’s latest abandonment it’s hard not to remember that this man’s hands are covered with blood.

I saw something on Twitter some weeks ago that was enough to swear one off democracy for life. I screenshot it and then forgot about it, to be reminded by Rumsfeld’s death.

What does it matter what Americans think and why assume they think anything at all on this matter, or have any basis for holding a thought on it? Their hands are red too. But with representation comes shared responsibility, and once again they abdicate responsibility.

On another note, I was listening to today’s Talking Politics and there was a brief discussion of the disruption that the queen’s death can potentially cause. It made me wonder if there is something inherently different about a monarchy with its implicit but inherent inequality of rights. But I suppose proud republics also worship the ways they choose to be governed, as do failing wannabe theocracies.
