And my computer came on this morning and I immediately set to work, frantically backing up and setting up backup systems. I have no idea what happened, but well, I suppose it’s time to pay for a proper backup now, automated, since I’m incapable of managing it myself. Thank heavens. I’m reconciled to buying a new computer fairly soon now, it’ll be a horrific expense but a necessary one, but at least I’ll have all my work and my accounts etc.
I immediately set up a free trial with DropBox and uploaded all the current stuff there and also a free trial of BackBlaze for a full regular backup. I haven’t fully decided how I’ll do it, but at least for now everything is safe. In the next few days I’ll try to work out a good system. Meanwhile, I’ve set the computer to never go to sleep again – not great for it, and especially for its battery, but it doesn’t show signs of a long and healthy lifespan anyway. I think I will not get a ThinkPad next time, this may well be what pushes me over to a Mac.
Thank heavens.
This evening was the match between England and Germany and I found myself supporting England – so clearly over a decade of marriage and many years living in the country did eventually rub off. Just in time too, since England won a rare victory and what’s more, it was with more flair than I normally expect from an England side. As a disinterested neutral, during the Euros 2020 I’ve settled on flair and vim as the things I really look out for.
I took a 10 minute break for an online consultation with a doctor in the UK about this terrible eczema. He looked at it and said I should go see a doctor today who can prescribe in Turkey. I wasn’t about to go today, of course, since it was night time, but if I live till then and my hands don’t fall off in the interim, I shall go tomorrow.
