I went to Masjid India yesterday to buy some silk for a sari blouse for a wedding in Phuket. It was rather embarrassing to realise that at this advanced age I still have no real sense of fabric. I don’t think it’s particularly good silk. Ah well. I’ve found a tailor online, and if she does a good job I’ll try to find better quality silk and have a couple more stitched.
The wedding in Phuket is of the sibling of a relative by marriage and is at a very fancy resort. It’s not the sort of place I enjoy going to, and in this case is worsened by the fact that I’ve been editing a dissertation of the impact of resort development on the sea peoples in and around Phuket, so will be thoroughly complicit in it, not to mention too embarrassed to tell the researcher that I will be visiting one of her field sites.
