The Republican National Convention is on this week, and the party has decided that instead of having a manifesto it is supporting Trump. This is really remarkable, really dangerous. Clearly time for a USAID funded project to develop democratic institutions in that country – I worked on one a few years ago (funded by another donor) which tried to get Pakistani political parties to develop party platforms and engage in genuine politics.
I genuinely think America is going to come out of this. It’s gone too far.
In other but related news I am listening to a podcast about the Iraq war. It’s by a pair of bros, but it’s effective in that it is giving me serious flashbacks to that whole time. Maybe the present less astonishing if one considers the past.
