We went to our first class at the city school today. I was relieved that it turned out to be very good; the textbook remains as dire, but the teacher was genuinely good and made excellent use of its exercises so that perhaps for the first time I was confident I was listening and understanding basic conversations. So a far better deal than the last set of classes, at least so far.
After the class we went for an early lunch at a Japanese curry place. It is located near the university and seems to be a sort of beer den more than anything, and the curry was also of this sort being loud and fiery. I asked for it to be moderately hot and it nearly burnt my mouth off. But tasty. Then a quick coffee at a pleasant little cafe with a pretty garden (though it is chilly today, so we sat inside). And then back. I have a great deal of work today which, at 16.15, I have yet to even begin but such is life in the time of coronavirus.
Someone sent me what appears to be a particularly misguided attempt to create a ‘helpful’ app to help people weather the coronavirus in Pakistan. The idea is you tag yourself as a person who has something to donate. This appears on a map. You can also tag yourself (or someone else) as a person in need. This also appears on the map. The idea is that these two types of persons can meet. Bingo! Except for the privacy considerations, security considerations, the fact that in lockdown no one should be travelling and, oh, you need to have a smartphone with a data connection. So thoughtless.
