There’s been a strange infestation in the flat while we were out of town. I feel like I’m winning through brute force – collecting and flushing any insects I see – but who knows. They are little cocoons with a worm like creature inside them. We sent a photo to an exterminator who thought they were butterflies. I thought maybe they were the big black butterflies which sometimes engulf KL and are said to be the spirits of the dead, but haven’t seen them this year. I’m worried they might be some particularly demonic moths or wood devouring creatures as one sometimes finds a little pile of dust at the foot of a doorframe.
So the battle against nature continues in KL, where the jungle bursts forth from every chink in the city’s relentless urbanisation.
