Not yesterday, nor today. Pakistan has embraced Black Friday sales with its usual ready enthusiasm for consumerism. But one can’t insult the holy day, of course, hence the advertisements. Work was tedious and frustrating, and the only good thing about it was that I brought my own lunch and sat in the garden by myself to eat it. This is a pretty, always empty place so I had it to myself except for two kittens who came to investigate and wandered off in disappointment when they realised it was okra with rice.
They would have been much more enthusiastic at dinner, as several of us went to a steak restaurant. Over salted and my decision to order raw to get medium raw was the right one, but quite good – and local beef, which is unusual for these very expensive places. It came with all the sides on the menu of which the best thing was undoubtedly the roasted garlic.
