Yesterday I spent the day working in a cafe near the house and didn’t stray far, getting increasingly worried about finishing (I didn’t manage to finish). Then off to the airport, where I couldn’t work on the plane either as the seats were far too cramped for a laptop.
We arrived in the UK at around 8.30. Strange, so strange to be back. We took a train in from Gatwick to St Pancras and then a taxi to Hampstead, where we both arrived feeling like zombies after an overnight flight with no sleep, and in my case, a lot of work to be done. Here, there was due to be a birthday party, a Halloween celebration, and the GF’s brother + family staying for two nights. So, exhausting but also lovely to see them all.
With four children under 10 the house was a zoo, and of course all the presents and Halloween excitement made it even more tumultuous. Eventually they all went out trick or treating and I crept off to find my computer. First I fell asleep on the keyboard for about thirty minutes, and then I got up and worked steadily for several hours, finally sending off the work at 3 in the morning, just about meeting my deadline. And so. Finally, good night.
