We put in an informal bid for the land we liked. It’s far lower than the seller is asking, but it’s what we can currently afford. The chances are that he’ll say no, in which case we will see how regretful we are. And if he says yes, we will consider whether to move on to a formal offer. It certainly helps to focus the mind, I think, especially since we aren’t particularly committed to it. The idea of purchasing a place has entered into the realm of the possible now, and our conversations on what we could and would like to do have clarified what it is that we want. So in that it has been a very useful exercise.
We are now both quietly hoping he will say no.
