Rainy season

Today we left Panama – a very hot and sunny Panama, and flew off to Costa Rica — a very cold and wet Costa Rica. Our driver arrived a bit late but eventually turned up and then took us up through the hills to Monteverde where it was pouring, not surprisingly given it’s the rainy season. What we saw of the country was certainly very pretty, very lush and green, lots of hills etc. We stopped for lunch along the way at a well known fish place, it was decent but I think the shortcomings might be due to the cuisine rather than the cooking.

We have a little cabin overlooking the sunset. The arrangements are quite good, I must say: the cabin is simple but well sealed against the insects, the bathroom has good pressure in the shower (though the water never gets hot), and there is a well equipped little kitchenette. It is also scrupulously clean, which is always one of the biggest shortcomings of such places. The other shortcoming is one it shares, however: the lighting is minimal. This year of travelling has really brought home to me how important good lighting is to me. To the extent that if we are staying anywhere for a while, I am prepared to buy lamps to brighten things up.
