Changing the balance

A new person joined the class today. She was supposed to sit in for half an hour, but ended staying for the full three hours. It was interesting how her presence changed the dynamic of the classroom. I quite like my other classmate, let us call her the Breaker of Chains, but also definitely resented that she had come to what had been my class by myself. With the person, whom I shall call Fabulosa for her superb attire, suddenly a new energy came it that seemed to settle the classroom and make it work. I’m not sure what it it. Maybe it was just that I’d become used to having others in my classroom? Maybe that she isn’t American or white? That having three just works better than having two? Also, I admit I was jealous of her accent. It was almost unintelligible to begin with, until she settled in, but a French accent makes for far more musical Spanish than an American accent. Far superior to French-accented English, in my view. I of course like to think that I don’t have an accent thanks to Urdu’s wealth of consonants.

Pakistan is, barring a truly historic miracle, out of the World Cup. There it is. Now I don’t need to get all het up about finding cricket broadcasts in Mexico.
