Cholula in parts

With work and so on we haven’t really had an opportunity to explore Cholula fully, however I can report that it is a town in parts. We are in San Andre Cholula, the less touristed, more residential bit compared to San Pedro Cholula. Our neighbourhood within San Andre Cholula is quiet and residential (aside from the near-constant sound of fireworks and brass bands), with colourfully painted streets and squares that fill up with children in the evenings. Towards the pyramid with its golden crown there is a large open space, a park and playing fields around the mound and the church, filled with cyclists, runners and people playing football, as well as one dishevelled looking gentleman who carried a wilting bouquet in one hand and a tennis racquet in the other and with which he practices his moves as he walks around. There is a scent of lavender. Then there is the bit around the student dorms, which rather shocked me when I encountered it yesterday. After the peace of our part of San Andres Cholula, this is a very studenty bit indeed, filled with loud bars and hamburger restaurants and at least one bubble tea dispensary. Towards the edges this grows a bit grim, with a beer pong saloon, night clubs and strip clubs. Then you turn a corner and are in our quiet part of town again.
