Chaat shaat

A quick drive over to Sunnyvale, which is where all the Chinese and desis come to settle, apparently. It was a place of strip malls, unlike wooded Woodside, first strip malls in Chinese, then in Hindi. We had some extremely tasty chaat – I’m afraid I overate – and then went off to an Indian store to pick up some paneer and every expat’s standby, Shan’s shahi haleem masala which comes with the daals and grains pre-measured. Very useful; though I would like to learn to make a good haleem from scratch, it is certainly a bit of a hassle if one doesn’t have a fully stocked desi kitchen, and Shaan’s masala is very good indeed. I’m looking forward to it.
