A night’s sleep after a very long time, it feels! Certainly since leaving Thailand. I did wake up at 6, having slept at 1, but then forced myself to sleep till 8. Happy day. The rest of the day was quiet. I worked away on one of the reports in the flat, which is fortunately well lit and has a couple of comfortable spots even though it’s a studio. For lunch I strolled down to near the university, passing up and down more parks on steep hills, to what appeared to be a very intensely young East Asian bit, with endless dumpling bars and noodle bars and bubble tea bars etc. I had a rice bowl with crispy chicken that had been very positively reviewed but was just ok, and was interested to see it advertise its halal certification. I’d noticed it at other restaurants as well though certainly not at the pork-serving neighbourhood place (all white and monied, most above 60) place we had dinner at last night. And now, back to work. It seems very strange to be so on the other side of the world from everywhere else, I must say. Perhaps I am feeling this more acutely right now because I am offset by 8 hours from my work colleagues, and have to keep it mind when working.
